Plan B, Richard Hawley And Jessie Ware Shortlisted For Mercury Prize


Plan B, Richard Hawley and Jessie Ware are all going head to head to be the winner of the Barclays Mercury Prize 2012, whilst Emile Sande is out of the picture!

Many other acts nominated for the prestigious award include indie pop band Alt-J, The Maccabees, Lianne La Havas and Roller Trio.

Ben Howard, Field Music and Sam Lee’s talents were also recognised when the 12-strong shortlist was revealed by Lauren Laverne at The Hospital Club in London’s Covent Garden on the 12th September.

The Mercury Prize is one of the music industry’s most prestigious awards with the winner given £20,000 and guaranteed a dramatic rise in album sales.

All nominees usually receive a welcome chart boost after the shortlist is announced.

Albums are chosen by an independent judging panel on the basis that it

‘provides a snapshot of the year in music, recognising artistic achievement across a range of music genres’.

The shortlist proves to be a vibrant mix of more established names and up-and-coming acts from different genres of music.

In a new deal with Channel 4, the awards show has been moved from September to November and will have an increased presence on TV.

The likes of PJ Harvey, Dizzee Rascal, Pulp and The Klaxons have won the prize in the past.
