Entertainment Weekly has reported Enrique Iglesias has been offered a judging role on American Idol for $4 million. The Hero singer may join the show alongside Mariah Carey – the only person to have been confirmed to appear on the judging panel – when the 12th season returns next year.
Enrique has recently finished his world tour with Jennifer Lopez who quit the singing contest after two series and it looks as though he’ll be picking up some advice from her if he does accept the judging role.
In the past, Enrique has turned down reality show. He was previously offered a hosting role for X Factor, and was in talks with NBC for The Voice.
As judge panelist Randy Jackson is thought to be stepping into a mentor role, producers of the show have thought to be thinking of expanding the judging panel to include four people.
Rapper Nicki Minaj, Australian country artist Keith Urban and pop singer Adam Lambert have been speculated for a role on the show.
When Nicki was asked by E! News whether she would accept a role on the show, she said:
“I don’t know yet. I really don’t know. I have no comment on it.”
Singer – songwriter Ne-Yo gave his opinion on how Nicki and Enrique would work well as judges on the show.
“Between Nicki and Enrique I think both of them would do a good job, but Enrique’s been in the game longer so he might have a bit more insight on what these kids need to know.
“But see, on the other side of that, Nicki has basically gone through what they are about to go through recently, so I don’t know, it’s a toss-up.”
